August Curriculum : All About Me

With the start of the school year, we take time for students to explore more about themselves, their class, their friends, and their family. This allows students to celebrate what makes them special and build relationships with teachers and peers.

In August, we are exploring this concept in various ways including reading some fun books that celebrate uniqueness as well as awesome self-reflected activities. One book our students really enjoyed was I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont. This fun tale encourages self-love through engaging text and vibrant illustrations. This is a great book families can add to their home book collection!

For culinary we made fruit/vegetable faces and this fun activity can easily be replicated at home. You can use a rice cake, pancake or tortilla as the face, blueberries, bananas or cucumbers for eyes and strawberries for noses. To add even more detail, carrots or strawberries can be used for noses and shredded cheese can represent hair. It’s a fun way to explore individuality while developing fine motor skills and spatial awareness.
